How many types of cervical spondylosis are there?

Before the following symptoms occur, there are some early signs that cervical spondylosis may be about to develop. At this stage, if you pay close attention and take it seriously, the body typically still has the ability to self-repair. Since the condition is not yet severe, with proper rest and healthcare measures, the situation is unlikely to worsen.

Here are some possible early warning signs that cervical spondylosis may be on the way:

  1. Frequently needing to change pillows or using a high pillow to sleep, or having the habit of sleeping without a pillow.
  2. Regularly getting massages and feeling comfortable afterward, with the frequency of massage gradually increasing.
  3. Frequently shaking the head or habitually rotating the neck to make popping sounds, feeling relieved afterward. Over time, these actions may become more frequent, until the neck no longer makes popping sounds, and the muscles around the neck may become unusually tight and uncomfortable.
  4. Often experiencing discomfort from neck strain, especially waking up with a stiff neck in the morning.

Cervical spondylosis is medically classified into the following five types:

  1. Cervical Type Cervical Spondylosis: Mainly characterized by neck muscle pain, stiffness, heaviness in both shoulders, general fatigue, and often low mood.
  2. Radicular Cervical Spondylosis: Characterized by pain in one side of the arm or shoulder, finger numbness, and electric shock-like sensations.
  3. Vertebral Artery Type Cervical Spondylosis: Characterized by dizziness, headaches, which worsen when turning the head, and may also be accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and palpitations.
  4. Myelopathy Type Cervical Spondylosis: Can lead to weakness and numbness in the limbs, a feeling of heaviness in the head and lightness in the feet, and in severe cases, difficulty walking, feeling weak after walking a few steps, and the risk of falling.
  5. Sympathetic Type Cervical Spondylosis: Mainly characterized by dizziness, headaches, tinnitus, blurred vision, anxiety, and tension.
